"We’re calling it the Happy, because when people surf better, it tends to make them happy. And just about everyone has felt improvement with this board.”

That’s how shaper Britt Merrick sums up the Happy. Originally a new model for Dane but embraced and further developed by the whole Channel Islands team, it’s now the go-to shortboard for most of the CI tour surfers, an all-in-one model that can be scaled up or down with ease.

A low-ish entry rocker with a fair bit of foam pushed forward translate into easy-ish paddling and entry into waves (relatively speaking, for a board of this sort), great speed from the get-go, and stellar performance in the tube. Then there are the chiselled rails leading into a pretty narrow squash, a combination that gives this board a certain compliant, eager-to-please quality – it's highly responsive and yet surprisingly forgiving through turns.
