Spooked Kooks make probably the most sustainable and arguably the best-looking softboards available today. They’re also among the most effective.

This is the Dead Hippie, user-friendly and forgiving with heaps of volume, powered by flowers and infused with the spirit of the 60s, proof that the relationship between foam and fun is directly proportional. Complete beginners will find it perfect for learning and progressing on; time-served shredders who just want to cruise and catch unlimited waves and will likewise have a whale of a time.

All this volume helps you find both your sweet spot on the board and the board’s sweet spot on the wave. The float and stability simplify the wave-catching, take-off, and pop-up process; meanwhile it glides across flat sections and trims beautifully. Retro lines and amateur nose rides are very much encouraged.

The soft construction obviously makes the Dead Hippie a much safer option for negotiating teeming summer line-ups, cushioning impact and minimising the risk of injury for everyone. Meanwhile the “hard” plastics – fins, HDPE bottom, leash plug etc., all still relatively soft – are made from 100% recycled post-consumer waste. Plus you get a free cotton board bag!
